First Half Marathon!

On Sunday, February 26th, I ran my first half-marathon with my friends Andrea and Ivie. Ivie is the owner of the Stroller Strides and Body Back franchise located in Boca Raton, FL. I joined her Stroller Strides class shortly after we moved back to FL when Gryffyn was only 6 months old and Hannah was almost 2 years old. Stroller Strides is a mommy and me workout class that lasts 45 minutes and it is medium intensity.

In August of 2011, I decided to bump up my workout a bit, especially since the girls can't sit still in the stroller for more than 40 minutes at a time. I started the Body Back class that Ivie offers. It is a high intensity workout class that is two times a week for one hour and lasts 8 weeks. As part of my commitment to this program, I told myself that I would run my first 5K (3.1 miles) by the end of the 1st session. When I signed up for session 3 (January of 2012), I promised myself that I would run my first half-marathon (13.1 miles) and I chose the Disney Princess Half Marathon to be that special event.

Ivie has been a trainer for many years, concentrating on mother's fitness, but had never run more than 8 miles until this past Sunday. I love that someone who exercises for a living is motivated to continue to teach herself through new challenges.

I met my friend Andrea through the Body Back class and she is a seasoned marathon runner (running her first race in 2002), and helped my train with group runs after our Body Back workouts each night for the past 16 weeks.

This experience was wonderful and I think I have been bitten by the running bug. Here are a few pictures from the half-marathon.
